Tuesday poem - Where Did I Go

I seem to have lost myself
Somewhere along the way
I'm a mum and a wife and a writer
Of course
But...
There's more inside
More life, more love, more smiles
I just know it
Don't get me wrong
I like me the mum
Me the wife
And me the writer
I work hard, I worry lots and
I care so much I could cry
But I'm still not me me
I checked under the sofa
Behind the fridge
Then I ran out of time
School run, dinner time, bathtime, bed
The search continues tomorrow
Not a nook nor cranny will be safe!

Tuesday Poem - End of the Year

With the last day of the year rolling in
Minds turn to reflecting
Wondering what will be coming
Pondering on what went before
Sometimes it can feel like you're stuck
Never moving
In a rut
But if you take a moment
To see how far you've come
You'll soon see that a lot happened
Things changed
Goalposts moved
You grew
There may have been bad times
There may have been sad times
You would've laughed
You would've cried
You probably ate way too much chocolate
But you made it
Here's to the next one

Tuesday poem - O Christmas Tree

O Christmas Tree
O Christmas Tree
You stand there in my lounge
All proud and upright
No worries bend your boughs.

No fears of extra-wide hips
Stop you from being fierce
Draped in multi-coloured lights
You stand out with pride
Not looking for corners or shadows to hide.

More tinsel, more tinsel you seem to rustle
Too much isn't enough
You clamour to be noticed
With angel on high
You shout, look at me!

With ornaments dangling on every branch
Big, small, bright, shiny, old and new
It doesn't matter, you wear them all
Fashions come and fashions go but you
You keep your favourites year after year

No matter if you're real or fake
If you're tall or squat
For the few weeks you are here
You don't hesitate to shine so bright
And pull all the family together.

Tuesday poem - Closing In

Dark nights
Dark morning
Winter draws in

A saw a red breast bobbing along
And wished him a good morrow

Chill mornings
With a snap
And a dragon puff

The end of the year is running now
Each day competing with the last

Sleep in
Snuggle down
Hot cup of tea

Christmas bells are jingling in the distance
Not a scrap has been bought or wrapped

Lights on
Heat up
Early to bed

It feels like time to reflect on the weight of the year
To batten down and prepare for the next

Family time
Phone calls
Love to all

Tuesday poem - Bye Bye Cow

The juice of a cow
such a simple thing
and something most people don't even consider
But
This person's stomach has cried out loud
No more!
I cannot!
Please!
Our bodies have wonderful ways of talking to us
Constant nausea - foul wind - griping pain
This unleaded is full of diesel
Maybe it's an age thing
Maybe it's a 'too cheap to buy different' thing
Maybe it's been a long time coming
Now times, they are a-changing
And this tummy
Is on the goat

Tuesday poem - Acronyms

I'm living in a swirl of acronyms
They flutter around my head like
a cloud of tweety birds from those old cartoons
ADD
DCD
ASD
EP
ECHP
These are the things I must get to grips with
A new language I must conquer
Research to do and things to find out
I cannot just acknowledge these letters and hope
I must uncross my fingers
And leap into this unknown chasm
How can I help? What can I do? Who needs to know what?
The fundamentals
are
the same
He is my boy and I love him
Why would that ever change?
